There once dwelled

There once dwelled a love inside of me
a flame so bright you had to cover your eyes
it could be seen from all over the world
from the ground to the top of the sky.

This love was no ordinary love.....
because it came from your heart
you were the one who made me this happy
you were the one who ignited the spark.

Who knows when it started to die down
when the tears began to fall from the heavens
people dictated what was best for me
and I would sit back and let them.

They said you weren't good enough for me
I could see their point, though I didn't believe
it was then that my heart started to break
it was as hard as glass but broke so easily.

You wanted me to somehow forgive you
for making me fall so deeply in love
you wanted me to appease you as always
but this time, I had enough.....

I once had a heart full of joy
now I've turned bitter and cold
why is this happening to me now?
I am only seventeen years old.

I never asked for you to come into my life
to sweep me off my feet again and again
never asked for those tender words you spoke
when we were supposed to only be just friends.

It was you who did this, and now you're gone...
seems you didn't have a conscience after all
and now I'm left here....broken in two...
suffering from my life's greatest downfall.

There once dwelled a love inside of me
but that flame has burned out and died
and after all the hell you put me through
I guess I'm lucky to just be alive.
