last night I had a dream.
a comet was going to hit the earth.
i had only a few precious hours to live.
what should i do?

i stood and gazed a while
at the vast wonder that would
soon destroy life as i knew it.
and dreamt of better days.

i laid in the grass
focused on that mass of rock and fire...
i began to weep. there's more to life
than what i have accomplished.

i watched the rock...coming to kill
i watched the rock...miss us by only a few miles.
life was saved once again...only then did i realize
that death is not a choice we make.

i awoke feeling greatful, yet saddened.
there was more i could do.
so many things left to experience.
more that i could feel...

take no moment for granted...you never know when it's your last...maybe i'm just preaching...but it was a feeling i'll never forget.

You know what, I've always liked this idea of pondering what we would do when the world is over. This is what I have to say about it though, be more complex. It's too easy to just slap down some tears and remembrances of our life and what we should have done. Let your soul scream onto the paper and feel that possible situation of hoplessness and then write about us learing to not take for granted. I do like this piece so don't take this the wrong way and I am in agreement with you. Bravo.

This is a very good poem...very thought-provoking. It's something we all should think seriously about, for we never know when will be out last day. I enjoyed reading this.

The message is really awesome and straight forward. I was thinking about suicide when you said that death is not a choice but then again if you think about it suicide is death, your leaving yourself no choice but killing yourself so that doesnt really count. but then again death is a process of life you just have to go through the physical form of it first.
