I've often wondered
how they felt
the bombers that loosed
on innocents the bloody shrieks
of Shock and Awe.

Thousands of feet
closer to heaven
and the ear of god
than the rest
in this stone deaf world

couldn’t they hear
the prayers of families too poor
to flee incoming
flames of destruction?

Were the clouds so thick
they couldn’t see
widows in threadbare black
shielding fatherless children
with all they had left
bones and flesh and grief?

Perhaps at that altitude
where eagles are more
talons than winged grace
in that vast dark emptiness
of distance and eternity
the air is too thin
for a human heart.

I think unfortunately, it's a job first. I think they have to shut their hearts off, in order to provide for their familes. Either way? It's never good, and it's never right...war I mean.

Beautiful and ever so clever.

Thanks guys for your kind comments. One thing I noticed on rereading this quickie first draft is that I can't hear any music at all in it. Usually, though I'm probably the only one who can, I can hear sort of a theme song playing in my head as I read the words. Maybe it's the theme, maybe it's too telly, preachy or a forced write? Anyway, something different about it. No matter. Thanks again.
