it’s one of those days aluminum gray
pitted and pocked by a wailing rain
that drags a chained dirge down from the mountain
through my fragile valley of lilies

dark ribbons of loss weave through the nimbus
cloud covered world’s black ledger of time
red ink on your page orphans my heart full
of moon shadows and indigo hills

lifting my face to a familiar rain
I see you awake burst into flame
a shadowless sun a circle of light
a seasonless green in my valley
