WELDED TO HIS MUSE
.
The sun sets early

Telling of winters coming

His mind goes blank

Work consumes

Leaving little left of the imagination

The corpse of thought

Shattered shards of possibilities

A world must be chosen

The real one

Or the one he gets up to every day

Each and every day

He looks on in bewilderment

As these people go about their lives

They live within a bubble for the mundane

He so wishes he could find a stick sharp enough to pop it

Watching them explode into the surrealism of the mind

This world he has grown to detested

Yet it pays the bills

So a world he must choose

Sitting motionless

Tears silent upon his cheeks

The room grows dark

As the sun bids farewell

His mind is turmoil

A world he must choose

Smiling slightly

While nodding to an empty room

A choice with no options is never a choice

A room with no windows

But an exceptional view

Still remains just a room

This life calved from butter

And placed out in the sun

A poet’s road less traveled

Would be his death

As corporate life

The rocks for his ship to wreck

Timber and souls dashed to the seas

Sinking forever more

Like dreams carved from lead

The choice was never there

His mind created from the moment he was conceived

Welded to his Muse

He continues down that dusty track

Into the great unknowing

While looking at the world around

With a smile so genuine

You know it’s from the heart

Like all poets

Who see this world

In a different shade of light

Welded to his Muse

He lets his dreams take flight
