If the human brain was nothing
but solid cranium skull
would this place be escapable
would hell heaven atheist or beast
still take us or commit us or count us
and earth still show its reason
alive dead; it is
a cocoons shell, bulky, soft
of vast vacuum open to all the seasons
weathered, weathering
layer upon layer of nuances
thoughts gestures actions senses
a limitless, infinite island
alone in flight
sophisticated, drowning
in the search for its
devotion and light, and when
darkness comes the fight is unforgiving
a schism of twisted, battling fears takes over
consuming, absorbing until it
feels rooted and incapable
either way it seems inescapable
peppered with soul and spirit
and the unknown.

A good read, thanks! A soul constrained to matter, alors, quelque cookie batter!

I dunno man.  Maybe you've underestimated matter a bit.  I'm no philosopher, but I think that all those nerons connecting together can achieve something more than just single neurons.

This was a very good poem. How did I miss it?

"One last drink and the bottle breaks, returning us to the dust from whence we came"
