              Night Walk Home

Walking all alone on the dark streets
Counting the minutes and my heartbeats
Crossing under the floodlights and than into the night
Annoyed at my fearfulness and my lack of sight
Having an over active imagination can be a curse
Listening quietly and instinctively clutching my purse
A crunching of leaves I stop and I freeze
Thinking that I hear someone chuckle onto the breeze
I walk faster now, without looking back
All this is going to give me a heart attack
Home is just around the corner and on the right
I promise myself I’ll throw away every one of my thrillers on sight!
Almost there soon I’ll be inside
Walking up to my door I let out a sigh
“Nothing to be scared of !” I say out loud
Any other women would have been proud
I walk in and heavily lean against the door
That’s the last time I walk home that’s for sure!
A soft laugh comes from behind and I slowly turn around
Meeting the eyes of a stranger with no time to make a sound

~I did this last halloween after walking two miles home through a creepy little park and some back roads. Had the most terrible feeling someone was following me...This is what came out of that freako experience~

Never thought about strangers when I walked home at night, i'm a pretty big guy. But....being an active Stephen King reader I get afraid of everything else. Paranoia extreme. Excellent poem.

Thank you very much Twilight Warrior. I love to read Stephen King as well (I would also be less paranoid if I didn't read his awesome books!) Happy you enjoyed!

Lots of Luv
Kira

There's something interesting about walking through the dark. I haven't yet figured out what it truely is yet. Guess Im like the moth of whom only flys toward the light do attempt finding the darkest point beyond.
Great poem

brought back memories of my younger years when I had to walk past a corner of hedges in the dark to get home after babysitting for a cousin... all the night sounds seemed louder and more frightening~~

Makes me want to try
an optomistic reply

and try my own poem
