Many Faces

I look into the mirror,
who will I be today?
Is it the happy face I put on,
or maybe the scared today?
Am I full of confidence?
Should I wear the dark glasses to hide my tears?
What side will everyone like?
Smarty pants or full of confusion?
Oh here it is!
She grabs and begins to paint.
The perfectsmile, bright blue eyes,
rosy cheeks.
It's always the same,
but the decision is always contemplated.
When will that day come,
when she can look at her reflection,
and leave the house her true self?
Does she even know what that is anymore?
Can they see right through her mask?
See the hurt in her troubled eyes?
See the frown that's precisely painted upside down?
See into her heart of nothingness.
How can she help others,
when she can't even help herself?
Shelf full of masks.
Searching for a perfect fit.
Instead she walks,
out on the stage,
Naked.
Yes, in the buff!

I like this but the big writing was kinda hard because you can't really see the poem and the breaks we hard but the words were great. ahh but isn't life a big stage, we are all pretending aren't we??

Don't feel alone in this!  Everyone feels this way to an extent.  Know that as you grow older it gets slightly easier to find your way through the masks and get the courage to walk out you door with your true face on.  beyond that, i enjoyed your poem.  it brought a lot back for me....keep it up!

I sometimes call this illusions. Illusions being, what appears in others is usually not so otherwise, we wouldnt be so often surprised in time. I enjoyed your poem. ~Raven
