OK Pops you’ve had your say
About us modern youth
Now I stand up and say No Way
It’s you that needs the truth

It’s like we owe the national debt
Huh! Owe you back your life?
Get real old man it’s you not us
That caused your stress and strife

I suppose you hated nappies too
Or little boys that cried
Punished us when we were right
Praised us when we lied

You’re oh so bloody perfect
Nah Nah I told you so
We just can’t all stop laughing
As you put on your show

You lost control dad years ago
When No!  Just might mean Yess
So now we can’t be Bothered
Won’t even try to guess

You say there is No Free Lunch
I guess we prove you wrong
We play you for the mug you are
Practiced all along

So shut your face complaining
You’re looking very sad
Once we tire of this game
You’ll still be my old dad

But if you want to take me on
Come on dad try your best
You taught almost all I know
Now I’ll teach you the rest

The conflict between parent and child is a subject which, cliche it may be, I have not seen, at least not on this site.  Very strong reaction against those lapses of reason which parents tend to wander into.  Nice job.

Hi… UT

Ahhh the doors are open gloves are off..The kids will always win cause mum and dad are so soft...

Hi Hunnie
Yes I was being a little controversial in a funny way…… but I mixed up the last verse a little

But if you want to take me on
Come on dad try your best
You taught almost all I know
Now I’ll teach you the rest

It should have been

But if you want to take me on
Come on dad try your best
You taught me ALL that you knew
Now I’ll teach you the rest

Oh Sonny you, just like I said,
think that you know it all,
that you invented everything,
you're heading for a fall.
But I've forgot more than you'll know,
though I've taught you a lot...
I'd need a few more decades
to share in all I've got!

Now take this new found arrogance
and try it on your own.
You'll soon come running back to Dad
when you are all alone.
For even though your hormones
make you feel you are a man.
When true reality hits you...
you'll cry out for your Mam!

The joys of youth, to know it all,
get wet behind the ears..
Grow some feathers, learn to live,
don't shout to hide your fears.
Don't discount the wisdom
of those who've walked before.
For one day you'll be glad of them,
to lift you off the floor!

Oh, growing up is such a pain,
but not for you, for us.
I never known a teenager
who didn't make a fuss.
Thank God that we have been there to
or else we might not know.
That most of the aggression there
is simply just for show!

You think you are a policeman
Strut about in charge
Glance down at your belly now
It’s getting far too large
You like to do the Ironing?
Tidy up the shelf?
In this modern day and age
It should do it itself

But wait your Oh So Clever
Then don’t you think it’s odd
I get by on nothing (he he)
You always need a job
I can stay awake all night
Sleep the whole day long
In your institution… yawn
You think that this is wrong?

Your women may be full of grace
Mine are young and free
I know cause I am on the case
Rather you than me
I want to enjoy my youth
Your chance has long since passed
Not worry about my bedside teeth
Or Living in the Past

I can shout my head of
My ears can stand the strain
Your music bores me half to death
Dead singers are a pain
So when you tell me grow up
You want me old like you ?
Grow some bloody feathers
What kind of fool are you

Remember well the good old days
When you were fit and able
Now it’s coco in a mug
Sitting at the table
You cannot run to save your life
Your bones all creak and groan
Now to coin a well know phrase
Just leave us kids alone

You disrespectfully little brat
how dare you speak to me.
The one who gave you all you've got
who makes your life so free.
It's time my son, you took a walk
with all the facts of life.
So pack your bags and leave home now
and get out of my life!

Ivor has made some very good points here and it must be every parents worst nightmare to have kids that for one reason or another don’t conform to “???”
Now as much as I would like to be back in that situation again teenager…I wish… with my whole life in front of me I have been there done that.
Now  like Ivor  I am in a situation with two girls one 17 trying to sort out which  University to go to in Sept(rather will one accept her and the other just finishing her Degree and trying to sort further education to “Masters” Both think they know more than the parents (probably do… )
You would think…… He who pays the piper calls the tune…. As if

Totally Awesome!!!

This brought a smile to my face and an ache to my heart.
(It's funny, we think we're the smart one's till we're faced with kid's of our own. Dear sweet irony!)

WOW! Very good.  Even the way you ended it, such a "PA" would be wise to reconsider. Funny how those memories of ours, wishes that we had different ones and those, that still bang their delusions, aren't even sane enough, nor able to face their own mirrors of destruction to offer an apology, when often, we just want the years back. Great emotion's in this poem. Wonderful!
