Near golden sunsets

0 posted 2006-09-28 01:12 AM

I felt the rain slide
down a chin that trembled still
to mix with salted drops.

The sugar coating washed away,
sweetening the mud that splashed
dark contrast to the green.

"She's with God now," Dad said,
eyes screaming questions at his Father,
"She will always watch over you."

My own questions surged,
the turbulence nearly overwhelming
an already precarious balance.

Child's eyes blinked upward
into the rain, searching expectantly
for Mom's face in the clouds.

The insurmountable distance blurred
into possibility by wind whipped rain
and an expression of untried sadness.

A grownup hand on my shoulder,
a gentle guide toward shelter,
leaving Dad alone by the grave.

His tears were for Mom; mine were, too.
Grandpa couldn't help but smile
when I asked if God was crying, too.

-*-*-

Immortality is my illusion.

I never lost my mom, but she had lost hers in 2000. I know she was very upset and very much depressed. I don't know how it feels, I'm really sorry though. I hope you feel some what better though. May God Bless you with all your trobles.

Philip, I don't know how this was missed by me or anyone else for so long...

Your words touched an inner peace inside of me. Having lost my Father and sister within years of one another...I watched my Mother's tears held back, as were mine, to stand strong for the others in the family. They would come later, when least expected.

Thank you for the post and for the newer response which brought you notice.
M
