There was a tall man behind a high metal fence
dressed all in khaki wearing a beekeeper's hat
(with two layers of netting)
chopping away with a long pair of pruning shears,
flowers that bloomed this side of the fence.
Those bright rose hydrangeas, no, wild rhododendrons
(all without roots) were attached
to the chain link with green floral tape
and trapped like balloons.
Asked why he was pruning
such beautiful flowers
miraculously preserved in summer's full bloom,
he spoke with his eyes,
'You are my history.'

Night is a room with floating walls
configured in illusion's abstract geometries
café au lait and nicotine stained
wine spattered portals to dangerous streams

Ampules of morphine and intractable pain
flying at night over wet streets chasing the lost
ark of eternity. Feral shadow, panther sleek,
stalked my dreams in black and white
haunting my nights with opiate eyes.

“Tiger, tiger, burning bright'
now guilt returns in technicolor.

Night is a room with floating walls
configured in illusion's abstract geometries
one flight down from the blue air of winter
where emptiness loops
in continuous frames of celluloid images.
