My Demise

I can see it
even from this distance
I can see when it all will end
the final hour of the facade
my demise

my mask
so skillfully constructed
hiding so much of what the world shouldnt know
shall falter
allowing all to be seen
all to be known
and no matter how much I dont want it
I know it will occur
for everything that has a beginning has an end
it is inevitable

my thoughts and emotions
hidden for so long behind my eyes
shall spill forth
and all shall hear
whether you witness it or not
gossip spreads like darkness

with a great shudder it will come rushing back
all those painful memories
and tears I've suppressed
it will overwhelm me
causing me to stumble
my feet will fly away
all of their own accord
carrying me down dark corridors
until I can run no more
and seek the strong, cold embrace of the wall
watching silvery streaks of tears slide down

I will remain there
consumed by my emotions
the hurt and pain
the betrayal
anger
fear
crippling sadness

sliding down the wall myself
mind exposed to the probing of the world
helpless and alone
broken
so relieved, yet too troubled to care
for it has finally happened
the convergence of light and dark

lost in my mind
amid torrents of memories
I will have already abandoned hop of escape
as the darkness slowly overtakes the light

yet through the shadows of my mind
shines a deity
