In a state of limbo

You can build a home
Out of the ashes of memories,
But you can’t stay to long,
‘Cause ashes dissipate.

You can find your way
Through the dark,
But the trip will take longer
And your friendships will grow apart.

Relationships grow stale
Given times feverish advance,
You can’t live through the winter alone,
You will fall victim to circumstance.

Treading the path is like swimming through gel,
Napalm as it were,
And it burns like hell,
To walk the path bathed in foliage,
Hacking your way through with a machete,
Your provisions long ago given to spoilage,
With nothing to read but Machiavelli.

The harsh reality of life
Is that there is no reality,
That each of us makes
What we can out of clay,
To find the words
When there is nothing to say,
To drive on the road
When nothing is paved,
To seek release,
When there can be no relief.

I may be young,
But I ain’t naïve,
Although life’s curveballs,
Hitting me so hard on the head,
Make me want to scream,
They may wound me,
But I am still not dead,
And in this game called life,
I am slowly learning how to catch.

Time has a way of catching up with you,
The years go by, and still I have nothing else to do,
We live and learn,
Every once in a while get burned,
Spurned,
Not exactly receiving what we deserve,
Hoping that our cries will be heard,
Instead of lost in the ether,
My faith sometimes betrays me
But who cares, in the end it’s the same either way.

Each of us is an architect of destiny,
Building a foundation through our own tenacity,
Fighting through our own audacity,
To find ourselves in the wake of ferocity.

The entire poem was good,
but I especially liked the above lines...
Good work!
