I walk these streets of broken promises
to see so much in the air, so much despair:
Here a man in tattered gloves begging for change,
and there a street guitarist wails for a dime.
Time is in stitches while the delinquents dance
a delicate ditty buffing about bottles with swift kicks...
Music here, there and everywhere is drowned
by slices of sirens and screams...
Angelic choruses of forgotten hopes, dreams, lifes.
A penny saved is a penny worth stealing to add to the pot,
so maybe a thief in the night can survive.
God, there's such a need out here...
For Love... deep in their eyes, I see it.
Can so many faces endure the darkest hour?
Here in my heart and on these streets, I understand.
The cold grey dark of the night dangles lives by a thread,
and the lonely are slipping away...
So many reasons...
So many lies...
So many faces...

Wings bruised from turning away in such confined space...Not broken...still healable...still feathered with life, somewhere

I see plenty of that here.  Not just on the streets, but inside plenty of buildings, as well.  Being a hypocrite sucks.

So what if my wings are too scratched, cut, and beat up to fly... I'll walk.

Very powerful words

'God, there's such a need out here...
For Love... deep in their eyes, I see it.
Can so many faces endure the darkest hour?'

I enjoyed reading this alot... kinda close to home here and there, thanks

Life is a torment and torment an enigma. So burn the shackles of slavery and let love run free

"angelic choruses of forgotten hopes, dreams, lifes"...

wow!!!! you really, really captured the heart of the city (and of anywhere) as i've seen it living here in new york.

this plays out like an awesome video...such vivid detail, the reader actually sees it! kudos, carri!

of all the things we try to find... it's only love we keep.

Hey Purity

This is such a wonderful piece.  I feel the hurt coming through.  I see this daily in London.  It is both tremendous and terrible at the same time.

Great work.  Keep it up.

Definitely makes one think of their own circumstances and how they may help~~

The drama of the streets is hard to capture in mere words. You have done it very well, Purity.

Enjoyed reading.
