he feels like Alley Oop
or perhaps the Grand Vizier
just a caved-in cartoon shaman
with a chicken bone in his nose

enigmatically disappearing
like the dinosaurs
from the pages of Sunday and time

extracting an occasional memory
like a comic strip watercolor
fading in the rain
to blanket a bum in the park

spending Saturday night
appeasing the dragon
drinking from a sacrificial horn
self-chained to an altar of booze
and smoldering butts

still clubbing for female favors
though doing his best
not to get caught
dragging them home by the hair

"If at first an idea is not absurd, there is no hope for it."
Albert Einstein

Well, Coyote... I was going to cut and paste a few lines from this to commemorate my "I RELATE!" feelings, but, I'd have to have cut and pasted the whole damn thing... sans maybe the "female" line, but I'd just replace it, using poetic license, with the obligatory "male", and then it'd all work.
Yet, ultra-self-appeasing understanding I must shout out at your "extracting an occasional memory" stanza, for this one, o', I know him well.
Thanks for sharing a misery that predicates a knowledge of not-aloneness. Great, Great poem.

Wings bruised from turning away in such confined space...Not broken...still healable...still feathered with life, somewhere
