i spent a lot of time with my friends
you could find us together every week end
we'd start out catching up on the latest tunes
and then it was time to catch up on the news

i still dont quite understand why
we called each other friends back then
because we were always looking for something
to stab each other with when one of us wasn't there

we drank ourselves mad trying to get to the truth
he acts so gay, we've never seen him with a girl
wasn't he holding his wrist funny tonight when
he spoke more with his hands than we did our mouths?

yep, i spent a lot of time with my friends
but when he finally "came out", and showed us right
we couldn't seem to find anything to talk about anymore.
once there was no speculation to be had with our beer,
the frivolity of our stabbing gests and quests
wasn't quite as frivolous anymore.

---------

i spend a lot of time with my friends
you can find us together every night
sharing thoughts, pains, victories, and a tune or two.
but when it comes to news these days,
instead of ridicule and defamation, we choose praise.

i'll always need a friend, one i can defend.

I've not been one to become "Scriptural" in my posts, but I was struck in my heart with Romans 8: "Nothing can separate us from God's love". You see, even though I have my own spiritual beliefs that I choose not to "force" towards anyone, I still find Paul quite a fascinating writer, and a genius poet. I was so reminded of the "Judge not, lest ye be judged, for by the same manner in which you judge others, so shall ye be judged" line. You wrote on only one such judged topic. I relate to this more than you could ever know. (Well, actually, you already do)

I'm a humane-ist... not a humanist. I write of love, because I believe in it. Sometimes it's hard to believe in something I can't see...right?

OK...I'll get off my portable soap-box, and store it in my pocket...lol. Gay is a stereotype... love knows no bounds.
Excellent, most excellent poem, and yes... we do share, pain, cry, praise and grow together on this amazing site of amazing people.

Wings bruised from turning away in such confined space...Not broken...still healable...still feathered with life, somewhere

That was beautiful. Friendship is beautiful, but only when it is truly friendship. I liked this Eve, it was true. And I agree with everything Purity said.

I guess I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon, or is it now the portable soapbox?, and agree.  The poem was good because it was true.

"World's use is cold, world's love is vain, world's cruelty is bitter bane; but is not the fruit of pain." Elizabeth Barrett Browning

this is a portable soap-box, but it will probably die down to the actual poetry pretty soon.  Well at least I will even though I keep drawing blanks.  lol.  this poem is beautiful.  and I totally understand the outside thing.  I've been that way for a long time.  Nice poem.

I think the greatest attribute
to your writing is that you
don't candy-coat.
You don't feel the need for using big,
poetic words. You just let the simple ones
be poetic in their own right.
I've been with these friends before.
I'm guilty.
& You're a stellar poet.
