Do you believe in miracles?
Just ask, and what I'd say
Is yes, and I'll explain
by what happened to me today.

I saw a lady holding up a sign
"Will work for food", it said.
I pulled to a stop, upon the curve,
For by my heart I was led.

I walked up to her, and then sat down,
& begged she sit with me.
"Sit down, my dear, let's play a game,
for your sign, it beckoned me."

I told her poker was the game,
and if she won I'd pay
for all the food she could consume
on this so beautiful day.

"What kind of trickery is this?" she asked;
"Are you making fun of me?"
"Oh no, my dear... not at all,
for i've stood here, too, you see."

"But if I win, you sell me your sign,
and a thousand dollars I'll pay.
& I bet the next time you return right here
Another poker game will you play!"

"So give life to your dreams, for there lies your survival, and cast your heart beyond those faded scenes, and I'll bring you through the storm"

WOW. This is so inspirational!
My Dad once saw a person holding up such a sign, and took him to a restaurant and bought him a meal. I felt this was a bit prejudiced, as I think Dad thought the man was seeking money for booze.
But, the way you handle the situation is very kindred. I need to work on this way of doing things. You always make me think, News!

Wow that was cool.  One of those for-instance kinda things.  I like this one.  Then again I like most of what I read.  I guess I liked it more because I could appreciate the meaning and thought better.

and i'm from ny as well, and picturing this scenario happening on a street here is indeed a miracle!
i so very much love this poem. and it was unusual to see you conform to rhyme, and yet still do such a great storytelling job!!

i'll always need a friend, one i can defend.
