Nothing and Nowhere

His footsteps were fast
His eyes darted quickly
His breathing was shallow
His heart thundered in his chest
They were waiting in the shadows
Where he could not see them
Surprise was their favourite element.
They see him turn, around the corner
Silently they take their posistions
Lying in wait
He can sense somethings wrong
The street was too quiet
Movement brushed past behind him
Then a hand clamped his mouth shut
Dragged into an alleyway
He knew not to cry for help
The tormenting began
He stood helplessly
Hung his head in deep shame
Then came the first blow
To his stomach, his jaw, his head
He collapsed in a heap on the ground
But they were not done, not yet
They pulled him up
Smashed his head against the dirty metal pole
Bone versus metal
Each hit a resounding clash
Suddenly his body felt different
In their cruel hearts they knew
They dropped him to the ground and ran
His body lay still
And silent
His breathing no longer shallow
For his heart was no longer beating.
