at night
i take my mask off
lie in bed and think of what i've said that day
i think
and think about all the lies i've told
all the people i've fooled
why is this routine
me smiling away and laughing
when deep down i barely can stablise my anxiety
my pain
my growing pressure of disgust
that fills me like liquid when i wake up
and drains at night when i lie down

i lay the mask beside my bed
the mask i've put on that day
and look at it with hate
i sit
and stare at its contents
i lie down and rack my brains for any sign of truth
anything i did that day that wasnt fake
but i cant think
because theres that liquid of pressure and disgust
some that hasnt drained
and i lie here drowining
drowning in my thoughts
drowning in me

"When i close my eyes, i remember how to smile, under my umbrella im an accomplished exile..."

Get up and dry off in the...sun? maybe by the heater, burn the thoughts in the heat. Ashes to ashes, sust to dust and all that.

Great write, as usual.

True and searing.  Who doesn't have a mask they wear?  And who has never cloaked themselves in a protective lie?
