Bitter Winds

Something deep within speaks to me
Not words of comfort or silence
But sharp commands of discontent

They are as the bitter winds
Sweeping as a torrent
Through the deepened valleys
Of my battered psyche
Bending and breaking my thoughts as they pass

And I feel my soul slip and sway
Leaning and contorting
In grotesque fashion
Till all resilience seems to be worn
Small fissures deepening
Fracturing even the very core of me

And I feel as if I shall shatter
Beneath this relentless onslaught
Pieces of me caught upon the winds
As they swirl into madness
Rising in column
To blend with sky

And I am in the storm
This whirlwind of emotion
Until I am swept
Into the eye of Insanity
Where all is quelled
Save the voices in my head
Which whisper now
In the language of despair
