A creature lurks
In the shadows of your room
In the deep dark corners
No-one forgets

You lie tucked up contented
Barely aware of what is about to come
Dreaming of a better place
The creature pounces

The creature is there to remind you
Of what you used to be
Of what your life now descended from
And of what lies in the corner of your mind

The creatures touches thoughts
Thoughts you try to avoid
Thoughts that changed your life dramatically
Thoughts of your old times

The creature reminds you
Like when you chew the inside of your cheek
Until it is rugged
And every now and again you tounge flicks against it

Just to remind you
Depression fades
But never leaves

As the creature pounces
You roll over to greet it
Welcome it, almost, back
Thats it

Your gone
Trapped once again
In the relentless world of
The creature's antics

Hi Darkness, this is very dark. Like, verryyy slowly, falling into a dark cavern surrounded by protruding rocks. "To the center of your mind". The last comment is from an old 60's song. Nice write.

hey there yet another amazing poem by you  darkness.....
it is true that depression never fades but there is one amazing way of counteracting it....
whenever im feeling down i think of something completely hysterical and start laughing.... even if im in the middle of a class at school i start laughing which is why i get called completely insane..... but hey its better than being depressed..... it also works to think of something funny before bed and you get a little more time to yourself away from the 'creature' that lurks in the back of everyones minds.....
again i have to say amazing write.
Mel

so this is me but what do you care about that????

I love this poem. It is very dark, and true. Too many times have i been tormented by that creature, always dragging me back, down down down...into that black hole of depression. I'm saving this.
