ONLY IN DREAMS

I hear the things that you say about me
'cause my eyes are closed, but I'm not asleep.
And it don't hurt me no more
when I hear the slamming door,
I just wish I could be sure
that you won't be coming home to me.
I'm hanging round way downtown on George Street
all liquored up and feeling pretty neat.
And you'll be in for a fright,
'cause I surely am a sight
in the middle of the night,
when you turn round and catch a glimpse of me.
But you should know by now that nothing's what it seems,
and that true love only exists in dreams.

Come home with me girl I know what you need...
a roll in the hay and a hit of speed
Don't you stop I'm gettin close,
it ain't like we'll overdose
and if we do, that's how it goes,
it ain't like folks will be missing us.
The sunshine boys are coming on to me,
why they bother is such a mystery.
Things are movin way to fast,
what will be is now gone past.
We ain't the first or the last;
tell me babe what has become of us.
But you should know by now that nothing's what it seems,
and that true love only exists in dreams.
