Merry Christmas
11/10/03

White snow, soft snow
Settled along the ground.
Warm fire, toasty fire
Crackled in the hearth.
The love of the season all about.

She played with toys,
On her bed.
They went outside to smoke.
I sat in glow of my first car.
All seemed too good to be true.

“Knock knock,” sounded the call
Roughly on the door.
All stopped.
I came near.
Jaws dropped when you were there.

Dressed to kill.
A military man.
A pistol in your hand.
Sadness in the eyes.
Longing in the heart.

I knew not what to do,
But stare in awe of you.
A longing in the heart.
A sadness in the eyes.
A pistol in your hand.

I reached out,
You stepped away.
Brought the weapon to your face.
Trying to reach out again,
Had you pull the trigger; end the day.

You fell; a lump.
In the snow you thumped,
And I dropped to your side.
Your head rested in my lap,
I sobbed into your hair.

Salted tears, bitter blood
Soiled the pure white snow.
Horrid cries, agony’s moan
Echoed all throughout.
Merry Christmas.
