The slash
cold ice hard wind
across my cheek
startled half shuttered eyes
into a flapping blink
as tears began to form
on this
January winter's morn

Half lit the sky
seemed telling of the day
not yet awake
and I shoved hands deeper
into pockets
fishing for keys

Wonder
suspended by lack of interest
mechanics take over
and gears turn on gears
in spin of making do
while denial plays
along the slit of dawn
as if to tease complacency
into a game of dare

But I continue on
each gust to come
another reason for sweaters
that are at least an attempt
to wrap against skin
something warm

But Sir...it's 34 degrees.
Just a hair past
freezing.

Are you sure the gears
even want to turn?

25 this early morn... and wind from the north.. thickens the oil and makes them engage slowly.. and make a sluggish sound.. protesting the idea of movement of any kind.

Ron...the wind is blowing warm here...the Santa Ana's!

"while denial plays

always the fresh images in your writing, my friend.

Can I offer you a warm hug?

And we have a forcast for snow this weekend - horray, I get to play!  I can hardly wait.  This felt "chilly" that's for sure.  You know if you feel that tingle that you are almost loosing your eyelid to frost, it is a wonderful feeling (if you are used to it) Good job here Captain.

Sounds like it's warm here, compared to poor Laurens weather....
It did freeze the last two nights, though.

Good writing, as always, Capt. Ron.

It has been a very cold winter..
but oh how I love the crunch the snow makes under my boots,
and the invigorating feeling once back inside.
~Warm hugs~

    In the midst of winter..
I found there lives within me,
    an invincible summer.

How do you manage to take a typical day and write it into something so wonderful.

Oh Captain, dear Captain
you do this so well.

while denial plays
along the slit of dawn
as if to tease complacency
into a game of dare
