Don't call to me
I've already been deafened by
the screams of winter's winds.
Their maddening squeals tearing
through my chilled fingertips
as I grip tightly to the delicate warmth
of the fleshy petals that once housed
Spring's voice.
The flower is fading,
the frost's piercing echo is invading
the deeper recess where
hidden treasures once shined.
And that banshee's jealous cry steals the lustre,
the reflection of the last summer ray
lingering in my memory.
For I've long since closed my eyes
to save teardrops from the desolate fate
of falling and of being forgotten.
I'd never known cold so unbearable,
but your tracks are well covered with snow
and the flame that guided your way
long since extinguished.
So don't call to me
For Im cold
and home will always be
too far away.
(inspired partly by some of the lovely poems containing winter imagery i've read here recently, thanks!)

You are all so lovely!
The truth is that a couple of years ago i was a very active member here, but due to personal circumstances I dissappeared! I remember so many of the writers here and ive missed you all very much! Of course you wont remember me because Ive changed my name, sort of being "reborn".....but you are all still as warm and welcoming as i remembered. thank you so much for having me "home" again!

and boy, i cant wait to catch up with all the poems i missed while i was gone!

busy busy bees indeed!

i lost my voice somewhere between sadness and disillusion, but by the time i found it again id forgotten how to use it! therefore leading to my new nickname "muted".

Wow! beautiful, poignant...You convey sensations that have me feeling the desolation of being "outside" in winter both concretely and emotionally, integrated beautifully...~C

I envy your teardrops,
they know the depths of your heart
like no other-
they know the softness of your cheeks
as bitter winds rise and fall.
