Going Home
~Don ‘Buck’ Anger~

Silently dawn appears
Chasing the last black of midnight
To the West, but just for today
The River Grand is now alive
From the marshes the sounds
Of awakening birds chatter

Kneeling in the canoe of choice
An Old Warrior sets out to find
The ancestral home
The river is rippled by a gentle breeze
As the paddle digs deep
We are now afloat
The search begins

Past the skeletons of home
The ghost town of Indiana vanishes
A Great Blue Heron sails on our stern
As the rapids of Cayuga can be heard
And are portaged as of old
The Grand seems quieter now

As the village of Onadaga slips by
We hear in the distance
The beat of drums calling
Soon the paddle picks up the beat
The canoe is as quicksilver
Bringing me home

Greeted by dancing moccasins
And from afar the haunting tunes of the magic flute
Old Warrior has come home
Not to die … but to renew life

Above the eagle cries approval
A feather floats gently earthward

Written by Don in August of 2001
One of many poems shared with me and his family through the years

Don 'Buck' Anger made the passage across the big river and is now home.

His family asked that I post this poem that was read at his funeral services last year.

Tonight the family will gather in Dunville, Ontario, Canada to celebrate his life at a special Mass~
He was a gentle Spirit, knowing great love of his wife Nan and eight children and his grandchildren.

God now has the best of the Rainbow Warriors at His side.

~My Warrior~ ... I will always remember the gentle of you~

To have words to join you on a final journey of exploration

May the passage be a good one and the end be a joy

I miss the man and his beautiful heart...I know his spirit is home, yet I still feel it at times around-about.

Soaring Eagle -- what a gift of a poem this is.  Please thank the Rainbow Warrior's family for insisting you share it with us.

Thank you for this... I didn't know him... but through his words and those who loved him, I know he was a remarkable human being.

Marge...How touching to read this lovely poem this morning. I read it last year and I guess that is where I got my inspiration for the poem I wrote " Spirit of Soaring Eagle "
It was included in the book " Reflections On The Web " I hope that his family reads it and I would love to send them a copy of the book if you could help me. Thanks for all you do...Paul

Love this poem....:-) a most excellent tribute to a freed spirit...

"THE day is done, and the darkness
Falls from the wings of Night,
As a feather is wafted downward
From an eagle in his flight."
(H.W.Longfellow "The day is done")
