We Are Flower Children

We are only human
And never out of reach.
You think your words fall on deaf ears,
Those lessons needed, teach.

Untitled feelings struck in touch
Through mirrored memories.
Drifting through the day to days,
Flower children, We.

Ageless, though the aches and pains
Of inside seep from heart.
Where are those, of tiny hands,
God's created art?

Where are they, the ones so loved
That seem to "un" the feel?
If only they could see the truth,
The caring ever real.

If only time could light their path
And send them back to see
That two sides of the story
Never helped the best to be...

Precious moments wasted on
A past that can't exist.
Those tiny hands held warmly once,
The comfort of them missed.

We are flower children,
You and I, with hearts that feel
The touch of petals as they fall,
Of ours, forever real.

Maureen

So many threads to pull on, but all centered in your gentle touch. You point me toward a plethora of memories, some seeking to rise some seeking to remain hidden...Though "untitled" your feelings speak clearly...So very touching...sorry to be rambling [being old enough to remember] ~C

I really don't know what to say to these responses...

I wrote this for someone who needed some reassurance that we do the best we can with what we have even when our younger years were hard (which mine wasn't)and hoping that those born from those hardships should one day have compassion and realize how much they were and are loved despite their "un" feelings.

I could relate only in age, time period and the fact I am an aunt of over 40 nieces and nephews and was/will be again a teacher.
That said :

Thank you Nancy   I had many good memories
of then..my high school/college years.

Chris, I thought you would understand by my word what I was trying to say..and hope it brings you a little comfort.

Sue, Thank you for the lovely graphic...

Lori, I don't listen much to Linda and even if I did I don't ever recall words to songs unless while actually listening to them.
My brain  is too full of other stuff
hugs

Michael...you always seem to find just the right response

Thanks Dixie, *s

choshi "some seeking to rise some seeking to remain hidden..." I know what you mean...
Terrible becoming old enough to be remembering already. I always "swore" I wouldn't be like my parents saying "I remember when"...and that story about walking a mile to school or to meet my love, etc...

Toe, Thank you for your words of remembrance
funny thing...I remember sitting at an Elvis concert saying "what is that awful musty smell?" I was never "into" anything although my friends were.
There are times I regret not having the experiences and then when I see where those friends are today or where their paths have traveled, I am glad I am who I am and never felt the need to "follow"

although my life seems to have gone the way  of many others now...but it is the memories and habits that my husband had rising in him that turned him away..from the best thing he had in his life...

and that's a fact!! *winking

Vietnam> drinking, smoking whatever ...
availability...todays movies reliving it,
early deaths of friends...well you get the picture...

I wrote this to show that love  may not show its face the way we wish...but in doing for others the satisfaction of knowing and caring is there, hidden sometimes, but there all the same.

Sorry for the long explanatons...

hugs and thanks all
Maureen

Yanno Maureen....those were wonderful times....little or no violence in our music, mostly peace and love and anti war....blacks and whites partied together, race relations at least seemed better?, alot of this had to do with drugs I'm sure...and yes...alot of us made the mistake of partaking in the evil weed and worse things, and it left it's mark on those of us still alive and of course all the ones that weren't so lucky

Interesting...I enjoyed the poem. I was the small hands of (sort of) hippie parents. (who are awesome and I love them so much)

You had a different perspective of life than I growing up and becoming adults - changing your world.  Thanks for sharing - and everyone who shared in this thread.  Its kind of like visiting a another culture because the differences are so vast than the days of the eighties teens.  What did we stand for - I don't even know besides the fashion.

Maureen, I enjoyed your poem and the responses to it. I also went to your website last night, and I wanted to tell you that I love the poems you read on there. That's really neat.

Well, I think when I go home tonight I am going to have to listen to "Our House" about a dozen times.

"some seeking to rise some seeking to remain hidden..."

"I know what you mean...

Well, Maureen, how could you not? Perhaps its my grandiosity but those were amazing times not to be duplicated..how could [why would] one choose to forget being at Woodstock?  But you have a beautiful mastery of irony which for me makes your poem so emotionally moving...i.e: the conflict of memory blurring present reality and the ensuing loss of emotional relatedness. [at least in my reading]

As you write:

"You and I, with hearts that feel
The touch of petals as they fall,"

May I answer [out of season]:

What joy would there be,
if soft blossoms did not wither
as the season turns-
each moment becomes more dear,
not sure when the last will fall.

Thank you for stimulating this amazing dialog...~C

Toerag, somewhat wonderful...met my husband back then (magical times) and I still have many of those same beliefs of "oneship" and try to hold onto them...didn't have anything to do with  drugs for me...I was high on life, always was, until recently.

Times change, people change, there are regrets sometimes that I lack the  experiences that would probably make me a  better poet...and I can't always say "I know how someone feels" because I have been lucky in that sense, to not have suffered much in life until now and even that suffering doesn't compare to those less fortunate.

Thank you for your insight, Toe.

Copperbell, then you got the message. And I hope you know that you were/are loved.

Many differences yet many similarities...
kids  and  "almost adults"  are always fighting for their independence..then when they have it sometimes they wish to be back home with less worries.

Ethel, thank you for stopping by my site. I haven't spent too much time on here reading/ responding because I am just plain tired lately...not sure why unless it is this cold weather wearing me down.

I made that site  at the end of 1999..in fact I just received a warning to add something to it  soon or geocities will delete it all. *s

It was an effort to have a musical background and read aloud the poems all in a short span of time.

icebox, did you listen to "Our House" ? I loved the times of Folk Singers...Peter Paul and Mary and others..
Thank You

choshi, I  was  never at Woodstock although my brothers were...I was a much more reserved teenager...although I enjoyed the times.

"What joy would there be,
if soft blossoms did not wither
as the season turns-
each moment becomes more dear,
not sure when the last will fall."

beautiful words, much appreciated, ~C.

Martie, muted chill?  well I am getting chills from the reaction to my words..thank you.

Thank you Dawn, for reading me, this day.
