He goes about his merry way
nothing's ever wrong
smile
a warm hello
the textbook day

I wish I could be like him
his life has a plan
on track
years of work
membership at the gym

Beautiful wife and children
big house with pillars
warm
he makes good money
and she's a Volvo driving soccer mom

Everything you could want
retirement, security
Love
friends, family
vacations, trips to wherever

But...

You dont see inside him
in his mind
sadness
needing more
cant seem to find happiness

Every day as he walks
smiling on his way
searching
lost in life
no idea where to turn

That big smile translates
to one thing
confusion
he is too proud
to ask for help and direction

Inside, his soul is burning
his mind is idle
blank
noisy
bright
dark
loud
wanting, empty...
searching for the answers

"How are you today?"
"Good thank you." he replied with a smile and lost eyes...

"All you have to do is ask" replied God.

Very good!  No, really...VERY GOOD!  I've noticed before the people who pass by, whether it be at the grocery store, sitting at a red light...wherever...and I've actually "looked" at them.  The outside picture is not even a hint as to what a person has inside them.  You never know.

I enjoyed reading this, it flowed very nicely in thought.

We shake our heads too easily
ignoring that deep inner voice
inside us...just waiting...

Well done, Sir!

That is a very great in depth poem. You did a great job on giving the details on how someone can be overlooked and not know their true insides.. Hope to see more
