Her Silence Turns Red
©2004 C.G. Ward

her silence turns red
as the beat bursts black.

     -thump-
     -thump-
     -thump-

bodies pressed - bones to breast
mingling scents of desire
with the rythm of desperation.

----------
----------

darkness used to be her fortè.
the darker, the better.

     'barter my heart
         for a harley
and a record as long as his...'

domed skull and doomed dreams,
the wild side nothing more than
a wild ride straight to loneliness
and wrinkles
and smoke
and bars filled with forgotten vitality
and burned out hormones.

----------
----------

forty isn't supposed to be old.

----------
----------

candlelight and causes,
last night's romance lies
sprawled on the
bed drooling beer bottle dangling -
from the hand not stuck in his crotch.

lit up,
spritzed up,
the mirror replies with an insult,
showing a woman i don't think
i'd ever care to know.

oh wait, that's me.
that's me.

----------
----------

bodies pressed - bones to breast,
she sees tomorrow
in the eyes of every humping stranger
and wonders why she's here.

     -thump-
     -thump-
     -thump-

as the beat bursts black,
her silence turns red.

What a presentation this is, Christopher.
I had almost forgotten what a great
writer you are. I'm glad you're posting more.

Goodness gracious Christopher! This is one heck of a dark write. Perfectly penned by the way. Thank the Lord I didn't mind my forties at all, and had the same familiar face beside me each morn. Chris

Great post Christopher. I'm turning 40 and I don't think it's old either. You put a lot of effort into this poem and it turned out very good. Keep up the great writing Chris.

Oh, isn't that precious!
Your poetry is always, (somewhat) of a wild ride.

Really creative.  There was a real feel of a biker gang chick and guy here!  This is special!

Well dang it all, you made up my mind I am getting that tatoo I have always wanted, because if 40 is old nowadays, I don't have much time left   Great write on this one, I enjoyed it.
