Upon the snow-clad bough, does he,
This little bird, sit quietly,
Swell out his red breast ardently
And gaze upon the world in thought.

“In this wonderland,” he deems,
“Things aren’t always as they seem!
This wintry night is but a dream…
A certainty that pain has taught.”

(Of course it’s pretty in the trees-
Wild porcelain dances gracefully
To fall upon soft, gentle knees
and join the  rested snow on ground)

Our little bird does softly tear,
While nosy fauna gather near
To hear the mourning heartbeat clear…
…A curious and labored sound.

(This distress falls aimlessly
On hearts that feel quite painlessly
And the little critters underneath
Don’t understand the bird’s sad cries.)

“I shall depart alone” he frowns,
While snowflakes rest upon his crown
And suddenly the bird does lean
Towards his chosen fate-
The ground.

The eyes of the animals did follow
The great demise of the mourning swallow
Their faces nonchalant and hollow
-Yet ready for the vacant thud.

And then it came, a sound so small
(The sorrow bouncing off them all)
White dust, disturbed, to rise then fall
Atop the small and open tomb.

One small breath escaped the bird,
A grand finally – one final word.
The warm exhale danced up and merged
With winter’s cold and naked air.

Little eyes that know no better
Seek beauty from a single feather,
Waltzing with the wintry weather,
Above their haloed heads.

(A curtain, white and crystalline
Falls perfectly to end the scene,
And none do stay to intervene,
While winter buries death.)

No mourning shakes old Winter’s hand,
And so continues wonderland
For nature cannot understand,
Despair in hearts of little birds.

Welcome to Passions Kristen. I enjoyed this piece very much. It is a great piece to make a grand enterance with. Well done and bravo...but then as one who once was from Ontario I didn't doubt you'd do any less. 8-)

(tears fall down my cheeks) This is such a beautifully sad debut hat made me cry, dearest friend, I love all of God's creations and it made me sad imagining the little bird, but I know God will always feed His sparrows and they shall prevail! God Bless You! Welcome to Passions, sweet Kristin, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! I can't wait to read more of your wonderful words, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kristin, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
