Resolutions Un Made

Though hungry for the new,
Each day possesses for me
Resolutions unmade.

For the unexpected in life
Is drawn to me, no warnings,
Just unplanned, unintentional
Distractions

That repel my wants,
Suppress my desires,
Magnetizing what shouldn't
Staying me off course.

I was never good at navigating.
Why should life's direction
Be any different?

These are the thoughts
that remind me
why one must remain flexible
to all that comes to them.

Well done, Maureen.

Makes me think of ADD.  I crave organization, but rarely find it, and most resolutions with me are exactly that, "un made".  I like the darting feeling I get from reading your words, about like what you are describing.  Very good poet, you are.

Thanks All..I was thinking of New Years Resolutions and how I don't make them anymore..not to say I don't make lists, which may have been my marital downfall...

he just never understood a list is just that..tackle one-at-a-time...scratch it off and go on to the next...no pressure...no order...just GET IT DONE...in less than 5 years....never happened...the end

Days can be like that...I am curious, though; the verb tenses change here, could you explain for me:

That repel my wants,
                        Suppress my desires,
                        Magnetizing what shouldn't
                        Staying me off course.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

The resolution made with such conviction
Often is cast aside
Made when blind in a celebratory time
So it’s truth does hide,
Best to just go striving
As you go through living
To enjoy the place you end
Happily lost again,

Gloom

Virginia, not sure if this helps

Just unplanned, unintentional

(the)
Distractions

That repel my wants,
Suppress my desires,

Magnetizing what shouldn't (making what shouldn't be or happen...all *those things*)
Staying me off course.(keeping me off course)

just using my poetic license...

guess thats why the only thing close to resolutions I make are choices in a way to act...
more patience,
less anger,
that sort of thing.
The unspecific to make it through the unplanned.
I like this.
