Vignette – “Now of Thought”

Speaking to myself
and myself alone, I have come to validate
my desires.  Who would know it would take Anton,
while discerning perhaps he could be
a little off side
still, recognized, that fire
burning,

and wrote of it.

~*~

It is a tender smile one should give
to one’s self, and to their own worth,
whether any other might see it,
for they would not know its birth place,
here, resting as the nuclei
to all my questions of why to existence.

And it is this hand, this hand, which
in its tapping, whether in pondering potential
creativity in its exploration of muse,
this hand which now gently places
the last chapter to right,
stroking The End and acknowledging a birth
of worth, even if only to that soul
that lies within
one’s mind.

~*~

It might still be a dull and dreary life, as
Anton was quite disposed to saying we had
no other, but be that as it may, [cliché, you know]
a thought now resides, created in its newness,
entirely made of words roaming around
even in your own brain, yet stacked just so,
as to perhaps create a whole new
identity, inasmuch as DNA
building blocks change from
you to me,

and I to you, resolve that while in the dreary
and dull of my life, have found a brief joy
in the simple knowledge of concluding
a beginning, crossing a line, crashing
through the ribbon of self-containment,
and beating my own odds
of failure.

In this knowledge,
I shall continue to watch, and write.

~*~

This is the now of thought.  What lies ahead,
I do not know.  Only that a new day,
and a new desire, are within my grasp.

~*~

Dedicated to the art of suppose
As discovered through the readings
Of Anton Chekhov.

Someone once told me that "there is no such thing as failure....only results." Anyway, Karilea, you could never, ever fail at holding a readers attention. Great write. Hugs, Chris

Sunshine,

this is the answer i was looking for long ago when i carried Longfellow's letter.  You
and i must have passed in thinking for a moment as i began penning a poem about his letter last night.  Don't know if i'll get it posted today, but if i do, you can see where we passed.
I enjoyed this and want to know the title of your book and when it will reach the stands--keep us informed!

This is the now of thought.  What lies ahead,
I do not know.  Only that a new day,
and a new desire, are within my grasp.

Your word choice always enchants me.  I once read Chekhov in Russian, but the nuances escaped me, I'm afraid.
Nancy got it just right.  Part of your "now" is that you inspire others.  KJ
