Division I am an uncertain wellspring Words bring Shapes and colour. Some of these I fling away unsatisfied Others lie discarded Like the crumpled carcass of A paper cup or fly In dizzy circles like autumn leaves. I am a sleeping mountain Thick ash compressed to hide My rivers of emotion Long since cooled. Sometimes I burn the world around Until my flames have died Or leak choking smoke, A cloak to hide me. I am a stifled voice A scarf of uncertainty muffles The words I want to say And hides my heart But perhaps the scratching of my pen Can manage what I am unable to do, Can put a door in the walls that divide Me from you.
