Oft fingers fly piano keys;
My ears gladly accept the sound
'til the QUESTION of BE i finally raise.

         Be this sound orginal
or did from others I take?

       I 'spose from others
        sounds have come
          blended, then stirred
           within my fingers.

BE this true of how we write?

Sadelite - I believe how we write is how we write, from deep within, from dreams, from thoughts, from inside...

Sadelite, I feel the way Bill does. A poet may be
inspired by another poem, song, etc. to write
something that's inside themselves. But,
the feelings and the heart of the poem is
from each individual. Unless, of course, they
copy words from another, and that's plagiarism......
which is definitely wrong.
A good poem that makes one think.

When the sound is dipped from heart
a poet perhaps may take part
to sooth with word a troubled ear
a pianist's sounds that one would hear...

Very nice Sunshine,
A visit into your home is an adventure!
Piano, collected china, pearls and gloves
yellowed books...  Thank you for this image.

Yes, like this...and I do know that like playing the piano, writing poetry takes both time and practice, and the understanding that no matter how much of both you invest, you'll still miss notes and tempos.

I heard Roger Williams do exactly that a week ago -- and you just turned his little slip into a lesson for me.

RatL.
Thanks for your comment-not quite sure i understand it related to the music my fingers were playing, but certainly to the poetry.  Actually the music is arriving "better than ever" since i've begun writing poetry.   (I just can't tell whether it's  someone else's because I feel it so closely-it's almost as if i've heard it before, but i'm not sure.  Maybe i heard it in dreams or something!   Poetry must stir new links to musical brain activity is all i can figure

Inspiration is everywhere...buildings, smells... other people's thoughts as well as your own.
As you very well put it with the 'stirring of [your] own fingers'. It is this deeply personal touch that makes every person's art so unique.
I love how you brought this subject to light...I'm sure artists have pondered over it many a time !!

I like the question you pose.  My belief is that we certainly do influence each other to a degree, but each of us filters a different way the experiences and inspirations that come to us and so what comes out is uniquely our experience!

Sadelite...An interesting question.  I think music and words as in poetry are repeated in very similar ways, but also very individual.  The same song, played by another will be obviously, or subtly different..but it will be different.

I think it is most of the time. Perhaps not always but defiantly most of the time. I find alot of inspiration in the people around me. Be it my best friend Angela, the "Yellow Rose" or my friend Lauren the "Morning Star".Aspects they portray often show up in my writting, literal or metaphorical."derivative" writting indeed.

This raises such an interesting question...what comes first you know...the chicken or the egg. Do we write cause we are inspired by others, or are we inspired by others because we write.
