Another gray dawn,
sparrows on the maple branch
fill the sky with song-
do they mourn the passing night
or greet the rising day?

I like this.  I'm going to say they greet the rising day.  Welcome to Passions, I look forward to more of your thoughts.  ~K~

song of sorrow
fills the morning branch
the dream has faded
he is gone for now,
returning when the
sparrows serenade
the coming of the moon

love your zen pen choshi
hope to see more of you

Lovely, Choshi.  You have
a natural talent to say so much
with so little.

I like to think they don't mourn.  To imagine one creature that doesn't know the emotion that comes with longing, or missing something or someone...ahhhhh.  This is nice.

we could use a bit of zenthought now and then
like to see more from you here
nice succinct and zenlike, just how i like them

You are very perceptive, so here is one for you, dear inkgoddess,  more explicitly about my orientation:

Enlightenment!
Throw it away...
after thirty years practice:
arthritis knees,
black crows at dawn.
