Out Making Anticlines

Late Afternoon

                        I don’t know whether
                           the doorbell works; it did,
last time I checked             Pictures smile on the walls,
one a little tilted but not
                                                                        enough to straighten
There’s music if we wanted it
                                                               Pilot light’s on
                                                               for the season
       You’re reading a book,
I don’t know which                  The dryer is running
you can scent hot wet cloth
              Talk radio rambles,
intent on itself                    Sunset color starting to reflect
                                                             through the window
        If I brought in wood,
lit the fireplace,                Outside the hedge still looks ok
              it might be nice
                                   you can hear an
                                 occasional airplane
                                if you’re paying attention

you haven’t said my name in four days

Jamie

Another day in the life...and suddenly one thing has become so important...can see the need for just one simple word.  Very poignant!

Oh my.  This is powerful.  You never say what you mean, but suddenly it's there-undeniable and urgent.  Well done.

What a beautiful picture of ordinary... with the one thing you never want to become ordinary a stab of pain within the mundane.

I like this so much, Jamie... I've read it several times... will read it many more. *S*
