Yesterday I Was an Island

Yesterday I was an island,
Today I'm the U. S. of A,
I have stood upon the highland,
While the hours I laughed away.
Yea never put down this nation,
For this is the land I'd call home,
She deserves naught but elation,
For she's mightier than e'en Rome.
Hymns to the soldiers, who freed her,
Acclaim to those keeping her free,
Upon them may the Lord confer-
-The boons for which I often plea.
Oh God bless this sweet liberty-
-And the troops who are absentee.
