In a mirage I see them,
Wading through wave's of dust
And rippled ground-heat;
Married to their task's,
And by their work, each
To every other.
A group with true fidelity
Joined by toils necessity;
Wives and husbands
Aunts and uncles,
Neighbors;
Sisters
Brothers
Cousins.
*
What music too, dance these illusions
In August, plebes, with gathering-harvest plans;
Like bobolinks bobbing
Darks and lights rising
Then falling, back to stack the sheaves;
Women and children, gathering stooks,
Ignoring the pain of string-cut hands.
*
Ahead, the men keep perfect time
Rocking cradles, swinging steel
(I attest)
The beats of human voices singing
Songs of joy in simple living;
Glancing towards the hedgerow,
And its promised field-end rest.
*
Slicing oats, they skim, ground-low across
The field, reciting ancient rhymes...
Trilling in the air, the rhythms
Of the pulsing light within them
Hymning out their joy
For strength that's given,
And thankful prayers
For yields, sent fair.
*
Loud sound!
The daydream breaks,
And I am stirred awake
From this surreal;
Dark truths
Have frightened the ghostly reapers,
Scatted the phantasms,
And as I morn their loss;
I see what seems a demon
Come across the dusty field.
*
(The gold of banker gods
Has been exchanged
For ogre metal...
That separates the farmer-driver,
From the house of his familiars.)
*
Coming to rest: the clamor has stopped,
Revealing the beast at still, a moment
Just before it lumber-wallows,
Out into the field (its human drover)
Lashed...bound-tightly, to the wheel.
A lonely man has come to congress
With his stand, of cereal-harvest;
Swings the grouping beast around,
Then back and forth, he grinds along
Straight lines.. faster! ever faster!
But he never once inclines,
A God-thank working song...
Or one familial rhyme.

Marge T, Nancy Lee, iliana...:-)

Thank you three for commenting,
I have tried to make this thing shorter
Compacting words and sentances,
But alas as you can see
The poems is still long winded...
Thank you for the nice compliments...

Liking it...is an understatement.

(big angel hugs) God Bless You, sweet friend, I know just how you feel about these mirages as I have lost a few close friends and sometimes in my dreams I see their spirits hover over my bed and try to tell me something and I feel God is just trying to tell me all is alright and so I always look to Him for comfort! (sigh) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ford, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
