I'd like to make a New Year's resolution.
Alas, but in the past they all have failed.
Just like all of my fine and good intentions...
Fate, the train of life, somehow derailed.

I never want to cause another teardrop,
To fall, and not another heart to break.
And yet I find I have to write my poems-
Which somehow tender feelings do awake.

For years I've been a thinker and a dreamer-
But dreams are all the future holds in store.
I've made my bed, and now I must lie in it.
Life has a way of evening the score.

So I won't bother writing resolutions,
And I won't make some foolish, failing vow.
I will live my life the way I've always lived it-
Existing in the here, and in the now.

Why write this? I don't really have an answer-
Catharisis of soul, may well explain-
The reason why I write this mindless drivel...
An avenue to vent my rage and pain.

Happy New Year John.
Resolutions are only about the changes we long to make any way.
I liked the honesty of your write...and smile at the wisdom.

Hello and Happy New Year my cowboy/poet friend. Resolutions take away all of the good stuff....at least for me.   Enjoyed this write. Chris

I didn't make any resolutions either...
I know what you mean.
I'll do my best whether I promise to or not.

Do the best you can and that is all one can ask. Sir you do it so well. Thank you for being an honest man. May the New Year be good to you.

You needn't cork any bottles here, Sir.

My only resolution is to try to be expressive every day this year, so there will no doubt be drivel from this pen as well.
