Freedom, ringing free, ringing clear beyond the
shores of blue spray, white foam and gulls swooping
the seaside for a morsel.

Freedom to walk alone or...hand in hand, trailing
munchkins laughingly behind....the anchor dragging.

Freedom to gaze upward into a night sky as fireworks
explode, sounding so similar to those deadly sounds
that hurl shrapnel, innocent lives into the surrounding
darkness....as fear drapes the souls of many....as we
fight to bring to their New Year....this priceless gift
that we have known for two hundred plus years.  Yet,
never truly tasted by them...not just yet.

Freedom to choose, to express, to bear arms and live
the American way, day in...day out.   Freedom to
sleep peacefully here on our shores....as we work
feverishly to ensure that freedom lives long into
our destiny.

You are there this day, as a New Year came into your camp.
Some of you slept peacefully, some fitfully, tossing and
turning, worrying...Many, lying there thinking of family,
friends, those they know who will raise a glass of cheer upon
the strike of an hour that you hear now.....Your breath held,
anxiously awaiting a moment when the wall of your freedom
is jarred by defiance....an enemy unseen who wishes you
dead....just as you do they.

Our New Year will bring in a new day and year....one which
will be strengthened by our conviction and courage....Brought
to us by your unselfish devotion to us, protecting, serving
your country....that we may light the fuse,   watch the skyward
ascent....the burst of a rocket as children’s eyes watch excitedly
and little giggles ring the night air....

God bless you all, all of you there, sacrificing your freedom
of life that we may have our own.  And to those who have given
a priceless gift, their life....I ask God to take you in his arms
and keep you safe...for you have earned the price of freedom
and eternal life...

Thank You for the freedom I have....God Bless all of you.
God Bless America...upon this, another year of our history,
free to express, to write, to love and live in a land where
the price of freedom has been so high...

And...a side note:  due to drunk drivers,  driver
under the influence...more lives will be lost over
the holiday season from Christmas through New Years.

Approximately 1200 or so...  Drive responsibly,
have a designated driver...

Hi Barry...I like this. Especially the little side note at the end. Well done dear friend.

Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history!

yaknow, I didn't see one police officer last night when I was getting off work at 11:45pm

I figured they'd be out in masses, but all the way home, 30 miles, I saw none.

As I sat for a few minutes reflecting upon the busy year I have had a voice inside told me to go to passions and I would find there the greater meaning of this year. Now reading words that bring tears to my eyes, (tears of thankfullness for all that those who serve the cause of freedom and tears of sorrow for those lost in the continuous battle for the precious gift of freedom) I find myself in awe of one whose writing takes me beyond my little world and into a greater understanding of who we are. Barry...thank you for bringing my thoughts together and taking me away from the selfish vision I have had. This poem is the most perfect one I could have started this new year with. Hugs to you from one who continues to learn....
