2003 The Best Thing I Did...

I learned to let anger slide
until its meaning turned to a consoling of spirit,
allowing the presence of an affair, and a loss of love
to set me on a course of strengthening my resolve
to never act upon that kind of hurt again.

In its place, confrontation is gone,
tears are no longer wasted and words have replaced
the emptiness in my heart.

I have learned this year, prefaced by the few before,
that all God's prayers cannot be answered
and that though not triumphant in the healing of my sister,
he has brought us closer together than I have ever remembered,
the competitiveness gone, similar memories rekindled
even those taking place in a childhood but seven years apart.

I have learned as of yesterday that despite a liver donor found,
that could save one life that has been waiting three long years,
its need must now go to the next on the list, as another affliction,
has ruled it no longer an option...
and instead of feeling anger and dismay, my sister and I know
that someone else will live because she has been handed
the shorter term of life.

Maureen

*Kaile, this may not be exactly what you mean...but it is all this year has meant to me.

Thank You, Marge...been a tough year, with still more to come. But I am surviving it with calm and having the flu does something to prevent you from getting too excited anyway

love and hugs

Maureen, it has been such a difficult year for you.
And, you have stood by and cared for your sister with amazing strength.
I wish you much needed peace and happiness in 2004.

Later, perhaps, my friend,
you will feel the wisdom of this write
quilt you warmly on some cold night...

It is an excellent response to Kaile's challenge.
