On this path of life, when we meet someone by chance
Circumstances in their life,  we know not at first glance
Some people tell lots of things,  about present and past
Still inside themselves,  secrets just seem to last
Situations too hard to speak of,  deep inside their heart
Even though they want them gone,  they will not  seem to part

Some go to a counselor,  or maybe even two
Trying to release inner turmoils,  wondering what to do
No matter how many doctors or friends in whom they may confide
The "thing" inside their heart,  never seems to subside
Putting on a happy face,  feeling anguish and pain
Thinking if they talk about it,  what would be their gain

In this coming year and all the years to come,  too
I will try to be always kind,  and how about you
Will you,  my friend,  do this simple thing
I know if we will this do,  each of our hearts will sing
Knowing that we may have put a smile on anothers face
Not adding more hurt to others, who have their secret place

Plato said,  "Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle"

Wise advice, Ethel.  I certainly hope 'Deer and Toe read this poem, as they have been too hard on me, and I have not deserved it at all!

Dear Ethel, I love it when you write like this.
Thank you for your gentle words of understanding.
"Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle"
That is all too true, and so important to remember.

Well said, Ethel.  Everyone has something they haven't shared with anyone... except me.  LOL...My husband says I tell everything.  Nope.  Still have lots of surprises in poetic storage...

you to say. I really appreciate it.

Karilea, I must admit that since I've met Gary,
he can tell when something is on my mind and bothering me.
He is always concerned about me enough that he does try to
persuade me to talk about things so I will quit worrying
about them so much.  And, yes, you have a lot of
poetry stored in your heart, I'll bet.

.
Hugs to both of you,
Ethel

You are smack dab on with this wonderful write Ethel. You just never know what is behind a person's smile or frown. Take time to get to know that person - you would want them to take a moment to get to know you. Hugs dear lady,  Chris

Ah, yes, it is better to hope than give up trying to set out being kind.

One person recently remarked that someone had given her something very special and since she didn't know who her benefactor was, she needed to be sure and be nice to everyone. Hmmm, is that the way we should approach our companions upon this plane.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(big angel hugs) That is my favorite quote Plato ever expressed and I believe we should always lend a hand to everyone in times of distress and cut them some slack and lift some of their loads for them! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ethel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I can relate to this one. I've been a benevolent ear to everyone from a teen...to a teen's mother.
