It's not from the time long since,
That makes the pain so intense.
It's the time you had before,
That makes the loss so much more.

The words flow as do the tears,
As you contemplate the years,
You knew back then were still ahead,
But now are lost to you, instead.

Your lover's hand now grips your heart,
Where once it caressed to impart
The desire, now lost, within your grief,
Replaced by tears and disbelief.

The ache that burns is a brand,
That leaves scars you cannot stand.
And so you seek o'er and o'er again,
To ease the pain of what might have been.

With each phrase that you craft,
You remove another arrow's shaft,
From the heart that was pierced through
When there was one from the two of you.

The day will come when the pain has passed,
The regrets will fade, the shadows cast
Upon your soul will wane to naught,
And your faith in love will again be sought.

Until that time when you slake your pain,
With the tears you pour as dense as rain,
Take solace in knowing that your pen,
Will guide you through what might have been.

If I was as good a sailor as you are Great a Lady, I would be content with what I have learned, Karilea.

That's right, Toe!  Nancy knows what she's talking about.  You just go ahead and swoon, Nancy.  I'll sit right here by your side and pat your hand as I peak down your blouse - heh

Big mouth but a little heart on the right place, ain't that you sailor. If I could I would hug you tight (but don't tell Deer and Toe!!!)

You're in my book of friends man.

Truthful words....sounds like from experience perhaps. Very well done & going into my library! Swooning and sighing here. hugs, Chris

Thank you very much for your wonderful words of encouragement.

As for you, Sue:  I wrote this poem specifically for you; although, it applies equally to us all, doesn't it?  I hope you keep it, and I hope you follow the advice therein.  You're a beautiful person.

LngJhnAg...I love this poem. I do not write poetry well at all...but I can write prose and I love reading poetry like this. "one from two" has so much meaning for me. You must be a very sensitive man.
