Ranges

Born today-
Hearing strange sounds, taken from your mother’s protective womb
You scream and reach with both hands for that first breath
Something warm and soothing caresses your little body
You sleep.

Sight today-
You see something above your head
You hear a sound, someone over you
Gently holding your hands, touching your toes, smiling
You sleep.

Age one today-
You see the world around you
You take your first steps
What an adventure,
new things to touch, too taste, too learn, and too love
You sleep.

Age sixteen today-
You receive your first driver’s license
Places to go, places to see
Why do you have to go to school?
There is nothing to learn, older people are so immature
You stay up all night.

Age twenty to thirty five-
Go to your parents, no way
They are old fashioned, they don’t understand
You have great knowledge and you let everyone around you know
No one can tell you what to do
You sleep sometimes.

Age forty to fifty-
You’re sitting watching your kids with your parent’s
Your parent’s telling you of days when you were little
The glow upon their face, the pride, the love
Remembering the day you were born
Touching little fingers, little toes, and telling of your first smile
You sleep a little.

Age sixty and above-
Your parent’s now very old
Reminiscing of days in the past
Your first car, the laughter when your muffler fell off, and you ran back to pick it up
Saying you could fix it, didn’t have to buy another
Telling your little brother you knew everything there was to know
And today he still thinks you are the greatest and wisest brother in the whole wide world
Finding out after all these years you are still learning everyday
That your parent’s are knowledgeable and have many gifts to share
Their love, understanding and faith in you
Your oldest child looking, watching, thinking how old fashioned you are
The cycle begins again
You sleep.

Love Bon-Bon

Sooooo true, I think I'll send this to my 23 year old, if that's okay.  Thanks.

Perfectly written, Bonnie.  The end was clean and very well written to tie the poem together.

Hi Iliana
Sure you can share. I just wrote this one today glad you liked. At times on other sites I read folks replies and I can about tell the age group. The one that is right and you are wrong no matter what.Or the gentle soul. At times the young ones sound so old for their young years. Sounding off as if they have nothing to learn or the old one sounding off as if they have nothing to learn. How sad. Both could learn from each other. But at times when they begin to comprehend it's to late.
Thanks once again for your reply.
Love Bon-Bon
