How may times have I let you go,
my friend?
Yet, you, like the ripples
the pebble makes in water,
circle again and again
and distort the picture of
myself inside my soul.

These waters,
once so smooth and still,
will they ever calm
and quiet down?
Your smiles, your frowns,
they stir and turn me.
Your fears, your joys,
you drop inside me . . . .
skip across me . . . .
and you leave me then
alone.

Iliana

Very few people have had that effect on me. But the ones who have? They must have left permanent ripples in my subconscious mind, for this write triggered a couple of deep memories. Which means of course, the writer did an excellent job of drawing out my emotions.

Beautiful....very much so.  So true of the
ripples that start...slowly spreading,
rebounding...returning...eventually dying..

Very nicely written,  thanx Iliana...

Magnus -- thank you for reading and the sweet words.  It helps to be encouraged!  I bet you do miss the Mexican food.  There are so many good restaurants in Houston -- one of the big advantages of being here!  But, then again, SC has some pretty good grits, I hear.  Hope you have a happy and safe 2004!

Nice analogy! i relate to these lines because i so wanna be challenged in this sort of way...i'm getting too complacent for my own good, i think...though i think my sentiments have little to do with your poem...

Yes, I once knew this...I remember.  Yet since the ripples have disappeared as he did he, I see my soul clearly again, and for the first time, I like what I see.

An excellent write, Iliana, one that made me look at where I have been.

Do you mind if I keep it in my library?
Extremely well penned.

perhaps that is why I am drawn to it.
It emotes as well as eludes so many emotions.

Liked the poem. We all have so many ripples in our life.People come and go and once in awhile sometimes touches us so deeply we have memories for a lifetime.Maybe the memory may bring a tear, or a smile, or bring up anger that we have buried deep within our mind.
Looking forward to more of your works.

Very beautiful imagery used to say ... that he still matters ...

This reminds me of an old friend. I think he must have separated from him wife over 10 times, once for as much as 2 years.... be he always took her back..and it always ended the same way. She betrayed him every time.

Love the poem, theres something helpless and inevitable about some situations in life you just watch and wonder when its all coming round again.
