in the shadows

I am walking through madness,
like a carnival attraction,
like I am in Disney World
and life around me
is a rank display
of others' denied sadness,
with ribbons tightly curled
and sparkles
chasing tinsel lacing
lost upon the wind,
and tiny bits of shiny wrap
are everywhere
brightening the edges
of lens enhanced 3-D illusions.

If I were god,
had but one wish left
and had to retire,
would I try to sire a child
to carry on the family business,
or would I wish
for someone else's happiness?

A single human life
of peace and understanding
still is nothing
but a moment's spark lost
within the vast expanse of time.

I look at life and know its meaning
and yet cannot make others understand,
as if the writing on the wall
though known to me,
can not be written by my hand;
I've shed the tears of Abraham
and grasped Ishmael's angry pride,
and in the knowing
of the grand design
I have no choice
but to be resigned,
to leave existence far behind.

Very Nice. I thought the first stanza was excellent and would work as a poem on it own as well...

meet me over at the Aerosmith Rock-and-Roll Roller Coaster

I feel the overwhelming need to go 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds

then after that, we can hit the Tower of Terror...fall 13 stories and get a funky picture of ourselves at the split second just before the drop

and then we can just chill out in the spinning teacups...maybe the Madhatter will join us

LOL at Dixie's reply. I'm glad I'm not the only insomniac around here!
A heavy thought write, icebox.
