        Columbia Sky

There was too much color in the morning
a warning   like flash of insight
a piece of rainbow like a bridge
across a contrail sky   oh hear the quiet
as the road in blue defuses
and ignites this last hope of paper
see it like dry leaves piece by piece
lay to rest exhilaration
into the tear in the opening
where stars live

The undertones
are present, much like deep church bells,
tolling...

this is a wonderful depiction
of life, everlasting...

thank you.

Coincidence is a strange concept, but that was a morning when I made my youngest turn off cartoons because I "needed" to watch the news for some reason.  I had awakened earlier than planned, though much in need of sleep.  He protested this change in his TV schedule, but lost the debate.  Ten minutes later we knew there was a problem.  That night, he came to me and asked how I knew ahead of time.  I told him the truth, that I had a bad feeling but in fact did not know why.

I tried several times to write about that Columbia morning, and I failed each time.  You succeeded.  Thank you for sharing this here.

Lest we forget.

Reading this brought back a shade of that original horror as I watched them going endlessly down. The feel of something being notright is so easy to dismiss...and then you learn why your mind wanted to dismiss, in order to delay learning what was about to happen.

Horror that arrives so beautifully is all the more rending....and horror shown by a pen that almost always brings us beauty is just as strong.
