Why I didn't drink today

I jumped out of a plane for the first time
and on the way down, before I pulled the
chute, had the strangest thought…

This is freedom.

And then there’s Samuel Adams beer which
I like very much, brewer, patriot as he was.
I’m visiting my brother and where he lives you
can’t walk into a store and buy beer on Sunday.
They should have a sign that says if you’re a
Christian you can’t buy beer on Sunday which
would force me into lying when the nice old
lady with the jingle bells sweater - #17 ‘Mary’
looks into my eyes. Then I’d probably get hit
in the parking lot by some young punks in red
Che Guevara t-shirts driving red camaro fast.

Just my luck.

Seconds later I pulled hard, a big white bulb
formed over my head and I popped like a cork.
Even though my chute opened up to the blue
sky like a young poet, still hit the ground hard.
After smashing down, I thought…

This hurts.

Wow, this is special.

Even though you hit hard on the ground, you had that feeling of FREEDOM ...

and the beer can wait ...
