When Pheromones Took Breathe Away

I would be as a virgin butterfly
lazily soaring in the air,
sunlight warming night cooled wings,
unaware of pheromone trails
taking breath away –

I would be a touch of lace
shadowing bare flesh above my heart
so your eyes could guess,
but not quite see,
the hint of naked flesh.

I would give your hand
the warmth of gentle touch
in places  no eye but mine has seen,
and share with you a passion
that would make even angels
turn away.

I would love you in such a way
we’d blind the stars with the light we made,
just as I did so long ago – so long ago,
in the youth of our days,
before age took so much away.

Now I’ll just hold your hand,
look you in the eye,
tell you I love you still –
it’s only flesh that years have slowed.

Inside the fires still rage, the passion flares
and I’m still that butterfly
who fell in love that sunlit day,
when pheromones took breath away. . .
when pheromones . . . took breath away.
