* * *

I see the Christmas shoppers
As they hurriedly walk on by
Most won't glance my way
They cannot look me in the eye

They have lost the meaning of Christmas
Replaced by presents galore
But there is something on my list
That can't be brought from a store

A gift from the heart
Would be something I'd treasure
The gift of love is special
And is quite simply beyond measure

What will I do for Christmas
I hear you enquire
As the pigeons start circling
Above the church spire

I hope to get a free meal
Just like I did last year
The Salvos are my angels
They supply my Christmas cheer

For me there'll be no presents
But that is quite okay
Just a smile is all I ask
To help brighten up my day

in our society are able to put
themselves into other people's shoes,
know how someone else is feeling

This capacity extends beyond
sexual and family intimacy.
It creates a circle of genuine feeling
that can extend, eventually,
to all of humankind"

Maybe everybody should spend at least one week living on the streets as if they were homeless...that way they would apreciate just how serious the situation is of being homeless and would be willing to share more of their money to help the homeless...Sue thank you for prompting our thoughts on this subject...the poem was well written..as ever...and has that personal feel to it...thank you for showing us the caring nature of your heart....

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Sue, this made me cry as it saddens me how so many have forgotten what the true meaning of Christmas is and I pray that just like Mr. Scrooge they can learn their lessons as it is never too late to be redeemed sometime during your life and make a miacle work for someone else unselfishly! (wipes tears) God Bless You, sweet friend, you are one of those special people who can feel for everyone, I send mistletoe hugs your way, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Sue, this poem is so beautiful yet sad because it points out a few home truths! Christmas for me is not only a religous period and celebration but truely the season of "love to all" I really enjoy the way most folk get to put away their hates and fears and love one another... if we all were to do this then life would be so much better!

Take care dearest friend

Beautifully presented Sue, both the thought, and the words. With a heart like I see here I know you must attract the nicest people.

Merry Christmas Sue,

Tony.

I guess we are all guilty of racing around at Christmas without stopping to think of others.  I thought it was appropriate that we be reminded how lucky we are.  As my father once told me, "There is always someone worse off than me" and those words speak so many truths.

I wish all my fellow poets and friends here at PIP a joyous Christmas and a New Year filled with lots of love and happiness.

Take care........Sue

Something for us all to think about I believe.  Wonderfully written, Sue.

Sue:  Such a kind and thoughtful poem.  What a shame there are so many homeless people and as much as people do for them at Christmas, they are often forgotten during the rest of the year.

Merry Christmas to you!
